PARIS (AP) — Wissam Ben Yedder scored his 80th career league goal for Monaco in a 2-0 win at 10-man Ajaccio on Sunday as the Principality side returned to winning ways in France’s top flight.

It was Ben Yedder’s 17th league goal of the season. The French striker put the hosts ahead in the 26th minute before Crepin Dieta sealed Monaco’s victory with seven minutes remaining.

Ajaccio were forced to play with 10 men in the 51st minute due to Cyrille Bayala’s careless tackle on Caio Henrique.

Fourth-placed Monaco had just one point from their previous three matches.

Ben Yedder became the third player in Monaco’s history to score 80 league goals, after Delio Onnis (157) and Lucien Cossou (97).

He scored from Henrique’s penalty kick from close range. Monaco then held control against a poor Ajaccio side that was punished by Diatta on the counter and remained in the relegation zone.

League leaders Paris Saint-Germain then defended a comfortable nine-point lead at home to Rennes, as striker Kylian Mbappe looked to add to his 19 league goals this season. Third-placed Marseille face a stern test at Reims, who are unbeaten in 19 matches.
