Arsenal defender Tomiyazu undergoes knee surgery, done for season
LONDON – Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu underwent knee surgery on Tuesday and will miss the rest of the season, the Premier League leaders said.
The 24-year-old Japan international suffered a “significant” injury to his right knee during a Europa League match last Thursday.
Arsenal, who crashed out of second-tier European competition after a penalty shoot-out loss to Sporting Lisbon, said Tomiasu “had a successful operation in London”.
“Everyone at the club will now work hard with Tommy so he can join pre-season training ahead of next season,” the club said in a statement.
Tomiyazu made 31 appearances this season. Most of his starts have come in the Europa League and FA Cup.
